Visit the G-Wave

Looking for a challenge?  Enjoy the first whitewater feature built on any stretch of the Colorado River.  Glenwood Springs Whitewater Activity Area has become a destination for paddling enthusiasts. It’s most popular with users from May through September. The area gleaned national attention when it was selected as the site for the 2009 U.S. Freestyle Kayaking Team Trials.

The area’s signature feature is a standing wave, also known as a G-wave. Depending on the time of year, flows can range from 4,000 to 22,000 cubic feet per second. Other features include a hole on river left, a smaller standing wave on river right and learning pools for practicing skills. At high water levels, the feature blends to form one very wide wave. Stream navigability is maintained at all flows for river craft with a clean boat passage being far river right.
